Statins, earlier known to treat high cholesterol have now been found to reduce blood clot risk, reveals a novel research.
Research conducted by scientists from University of Connecticut, U.S., and funded by pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, found that statins--a class of drugs used to lower plasma cholesterol level, also help in cutting the risk of blood clots.
The Times of India quoted lead author, Vanjul Agarwal, MBBS at University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington as saying, “Previous clinical studies have indicated statins may play a role in lowering the risk of these conditions, but these studies have yielded variable estimates of the effect of statin therapy.”
