According to a new study conducted by US scientists, a combination of two existing drugs has shown to be two times more effective in reducing weight than the only approved anti-obesity medicine.
Dr. Kishore Gadde of the Duke University Medical Centre, in Durham, North Carolina, along with his team found a 10 percent drop in obese patients’ body weight in a year, who were given combination of phentermine, a prescribed short-term weight loss drug, and topiramate, anticonvulsant approved for treating seizure disorders and migraines.
Topiramate has lead to weight loss in obese patients with type 2 diabetes, but has been linked to cognitive and psychiatric side effects when taken alone.
