Triclosan in toothpaste, soaps may damage fetal brain--study

A novel research initiated by a team of researchers from the University of Florida has revealed that a chemical called triclosan can damage the brain of developing fetus.

According to the researchers, pregnant women getting maximum exposure to the chemical may be compromising with the health of their unborn babies.

Triclosan is commonly found in the household toiletries like toothpastes, deodorants, and soaps. It is also found in chopping boards, toys and other day-to-day use items.

The medical fraternity is worried about its hazardous effects on the unborn babies.

Doctors remove underdeveloped fetus from abdomen of 1-month-old baby boy

In what doctors can be termed as an extremely rare case in medical history, a baby boy was born in Chattisgarh with an underdeveloped fetus in his stomach.

Doctors carried out a scan on the one-month-old baby and removed the fetus that was growing inside his abdominal cavity in a surgical procedure on November 13.

The fetus had no limbs but had eyes and partially developed nails. The baby boy is stated to be out of danger and recovering well.

Ashok Bhattar, director of Raipur-based Bal Gopal Children Hospital stated, “I was stunned to see what the sonography results were showing, it was clearly indicating an underdeveloped foetus the size of a cricket ball in the stomach of the boy born Oct 12.”
