In India, there is a massive cultural preference for boys. Girls are seen more as financial burdens whereas boys are seen as bringing wealth to the family.

Because of the financial difficulties involved in the getting the girls married and having to pay expensive dowries, many Indian families are averse to having girls in the family.

The recent report in the medical journal 'Lancet' has found a trend among many Indian families where another girl child is aborted if there is already a girl in the family.

Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior. Symptoms of the disorder begin before a child is 3-years-old.

As per the researchers of a new study, direct television exposure is not necessary to negatively influence teens’ behavior or raise body image issues in them, as they can also be influenced indirectly via their friends, who watch lots of television.

While commenting on the study findings, study lead-author Anne Becker vice chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at the Harvard Medical School said in her press statement, "Our findings suggest that social network exposure is not just a minor influence on eating pathology here, but rather, IS the exposure of concern.
