SSRIs like Celexa, Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft have been known to enhance motor skill recovery after stroke.

Prozac can relieve mood symptoms and help neurons to re-establish connections in the brain of stroke patients, speeding their recovery, the study suggests.

The authors, led by Professor François Chollet, said, "The positive effect of the drug on motor function of recovering patients suggests that the... action of SSRIs provides a new pathway that should be explored further in the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke."

A low dose of aspirin, 75mg tablet each day, confers protective effect against the malignancy, researchers say.

"Aspirin is a widely used and inexpensive medication. The potential public health implications of an effective preventive agent for prostate cancer are considerable," researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, said.

For the purpose of the study, researchers examined 1,943 volunteers of a similar age. While 1,001 were diagnosed for prostate cancer, 942 volunteers were cancer-free.

Joel T. Cramer, assistant professor of exercise physiology, OU Health and Exercise Science Department said, “The OU study showed energy expenditures of three to six percent, results which are statistically significant enough to validate product weight-loss claims.”
