Heavy snoring can help burn calories- study

Snoring loudly can cause spouses or room partners spend most of the snoozing hours tossing and turning in the bed. But, surprisingly, a new research suggests that snoring is a healthy habit, saying it may help snorers burn calories!

Snoring occurs when the air passage in the throat is narrowed or blocked and the soft tissues like soft palate, airway walls and uvula vibrate.

Snoring is known to cause sleep deprivation to snorers and the people around them. The condition affects snorers as well as their room partners. Snoring basically has a disturbing influence on the snorers’ mental and sexual health. It may also affect their personal relationship.

In young children, snoring may trigger behavioral and cognitive problems.

Partner’s snoring habits may dampen romance--survey

Sharing a goodnight’s sleep with partner insures a sense of security, but the same might give you a nightmare if followed by sleep-disturbing habits like snoring, muttering, and duvet hogging, a recent poll by Etap Hotel reveals.

Dr Chris Idzikowski, of the Edinburgh Sleep Clinic, who was not involved in the study, said, “It is not uncommon for snoring to cause problems in a relationship, or even split couples up.”
