Hypnotising patients undergoing painful cancer surgery could help speed recovery and reduce the odds of its recurrence, a new study presented at the European Anaesthesiology Congress in Amsterdam on Sunday found.
Scientists at the Cliniques Universitaires St. Luc, Brussels in Belgium have found that a combination of hypnotism and local anesthesia (LA) can expedite healing process in patients undergoing certain kinds of surgeries, reduce drug use and time spent in hospital.
In fact, the technique keeps a check on recurrences and metastases, the experts believe.
