Vaccine prices revealed by UNICEF

World’s largest vaccine buyer UNICEF, for the first time, has revealed its vaccine price list with the intent to bring down the cost of the vaccines by starting a competition among drug manufacturers.

On its website, UNICEF has disclosed the amount it paid to various drug-makers to purchase 16 vaccines in a 10-year period. The recent step set to bring greater transparency has not been endorsed by western pharmaceutical companies, who in some cases charge more than Indian companies.
