Gone are the days when reading books used to be an integral part of children's early life. Now, increased use of computers in leisure time is wrecking kids’ reading skills, a new study states.
Researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, found that the reading ability of 9 to 10-year-olds has significantly decreased in countries like the United States and Sweden where households have at least one computer.
Professor Monica Rosen, who led the research, said in a press release, “Reading ability falls as leisure use of computers increases. It is important that we do not jump to the conclusion that the complete explanation for poorer reading is deficiencies in education.
