Cutting Back on Salt
Salt not only raises blood pressure but is also linked to heart failure, kidney stones and stroke. Adults need no more than 4g of salt a day (or 1,600mg of sodium). Skip foods with more than 500mg of sodium per serving and avoid soups (packed soup contains nearly 800mg per 200mL), baked beans (half cup contains 570mg of sodium), breads(2 slices will add an average of 360mg of sodium).
